Where Kids are the Focus
FAQs
Do I need a DR’s referral to see a therapist at Necessity Kids?
You do not need a drs referral to see one of our therapists. However if you would like to use a Chronic Disease Management plan/EPC plan to pay for your sessions, you will need to see your GP.
Are you registered with NDIS?
You are able to use NDIS funding if you are self-managed or plan managed. If you are agency managed you will not be able to use your NDIS funding at Necessity Kids at this stage.
How long will my child see an Occupational Therapist/Speech Pathologist for?
This will be different for each child and will depend on your goals and the level of support required. All children will achieve different goals at different paces. Your child’s progress will be reviewed and monitored regularly and the continuation of therapy will be decided collaboratively between parents and therapists.
Can I claim medicare rebates on sessions?
If you have an Enhanced Primary Care Plan/Chronic Disease Management Plan, you are able to use this to rebate for 5 sessions (if specified by your GP).
We are not mental health registered, therefore you are unable to use a Better Access to Mental Health Plan to pay for sessions.
How long do sessions go for?
Sessions will generally go for 45 minutes. Your therapist might decide that your child responds better in shorter sessions, and may reduce this to 30 minutes. This will be dependent on their goals and how they respond to sessions. Note: sessions will be calculated at a rate of 1 hour to include administration time and report writing relating to your therapy.
What can I expect to see in a session?
For majority of the children that will use the Necessity Kids, the therapists will use a play based approach. It could potentially appear that the therapist and your child are “just playing” but there will always be method behind these games. Your practitioner will explain to you the 'why' behind their approach, alternatively if you have any further questions about our approach, you may like to read some of our blogs.
