What is Paediatric Dietetics?
Welcome to the realm of paediatric dietetics, where we put the health and well-being of your little ones front and centre. Paediatric dietetics is all about nurturing the building blocks of life, ensuring that children get the best start possible when it comes to nutrition.
So, what is paediatric dietetics, you ask? It's the art and science of tailoring nutrition to suit the unique needs of children, from infants to adolescents. Our Dietitian specialises in guiding parents, caregivers, and young children on a journey to optimal health through balanced and age-appropriate nutrition.
Whether you're dealing with picky eaters, managing chronic conditions, or simply seeking expert guidance on your child's dietary needs, paediatric dietetics is your trusted ally. We're here to provide personalised nutrition solutions, support growth and development, and foster lifelong healthy eating habits in the youngest members of your family.
Who do we work with:
We work with children and young people aged 0-18. Our service is flexible, high quality provision of dietetic care in both our clinic in Dapto as well as in home if desired. We will accept NDIS, private and GP care plans.
Other services:
Necessity Kids Dietitian’s can assist with anything food related, from packing a healthy lunchbox to improving concentration and performance at school. Our dietitians can conduct home consults all over the Illawarra and will endeavour to conduct these at mealtimes to give your child the utmost care and support around food and the eating environment.
Meet Josh!
(Dietitian)
Josh is an Accredited Practising Dietitian who has recently returned to Wollongong after 3 years working in rural and regional NSW. Josh has been working as a dietitian in both private practice and the public system since graduating his postgraduate studies in 2017.
He is passionate about all things child and family nutrition. He enjoys working with children and families around managing fussy eating behaviours, optimising texture modified diets and enteral feeding regimes, managing diseases such as diabetes and improving weight status.
Assessments:
Dietitians will conduct a full initial assessment with a child, assessing current growth trajectory, current intake of food groups and nutrients compared to specific calculated requirements. These assessments allow our dietitians to appropriately prescribe a meal plan specialised for your child as well as providing cost effective measures to healthy eating as a family unit.
Our assessment covers:
Current weight and height and growth trends compared to growth charts.
Assessment of current eating environment.
Assessment of triggers to food avoidance or over-eating.
Current dietary variety and designation of strategies to improve food group tolerance.
Counselling and education about food and how to improve healthy eating for the child and family unit.
About us
-
Necessity Kids dietetics is a new branch of the Necessity Kids family. Our dietitian works closely with our early intervention team to assist clients in improving their relationship with food, from a holistic perspective.
During early childhood, our relationship with food can have profound effects on our lives. Our dietitian works with clients to achieve their food and nutrition goals and develop lifelong skills to promote health and feeding independence.
-
Our service tends to do things a little different to traditional dietitians. We work on developing relationships with the entire family unit, working to build dietary skills and exposure to new textures to help better control weight, assist with diet variety and food phobia or even improve energy and sleep.
Our dietitian develops action plans, specialised for the child at the forefront of the treatment and works at a pace suitable for the individual child and family.
