What is Speech Therapy?

Speech Pathology (therapy) is aimed at helping anyone with difficulties communicating. In early childhood this covers learning to talk clearly, using words in sentences with appropriate grammar, sequence ideas to be able to clearly express details as well as understand and follow complex instructions. Speech therapy also includes stuttering therapy, voice disorders  and helping children who have a specific diagnosis with communicating without words e.g sign language, using computer aided apps or visuals. Speech therapist can also help with feeding issues and any difficulty with oral muscle co-ordination.

Therapy session may happen in the Dapto clinic or in your child’s preschool or school setting, we will work towards achieving set goals and will give you strategies and tasks to help at home. We like to link our goals to the learning needs of their stage of schooling so that therapy is hand in hand with school based learning. Necessity Kids may also run group sessions or holiday intensives.

Sessions will be 30 minutes long for both allied health assistant session and with the qualified therapists. If your session is and NDIS session you will be billed for 1 hour and your child will receive 45 minutes face to face. The NDIS requires much behind the scenes paperwork and it is essential that this additional work is completed within the billable hour.

In some instances your child’s school or preschool may pay for our therapists to be onsite, however for individually billed sessions we require a minimum of 4 children to be seen in the school on that day.
